DAY 12: Magical People Who Made a Difference

There are moments in life where people play significant roles in changing the course of our direction. It could be through subtle encouragement, the power of suggestion or unintentional comments that make us stop and reevaluate our next move. Before I took my yoga teachers training, I was a student of interior design. At the end of the first year, there was post graduates who delivered speeches of what it was like to work in the field. One woman got up and started talking about an average day with a client. She spent 14 hours preparing a design that she was hired for, when she presented it the client quickly changed her mind and thus brought the woman back to square one. What the designer clearly said was,"If you don't mind working long days under a deadline for others who may not like your work, then I highly recommend to reconsider your career choice."

What this graduate said had so much power behind it that I changed the course of my action that Fall and pursued what I was truly passionate about. 20 years later I still believe it to be the best decision I made and for that I want to take the opportunity to thank that graduate for being honest and real with her words.

Today's practice is your opportunity to retrace your steps back to the people in your life that truly made a difference. They're the spark that has lit your flame! Take time to sit, vocalize and say 'Thank You' to 3 individuals who have directly or indirectly led you to be the person you are today. Remember, this could even stem back to your childhood where your grade 9 teacher was a stickler for grammar, that as an adult you are compelled to reread each email before you send it to make sure its legible!

Once you make a list of 3 people, find a quiet spot and go through each person one at a time. Its best if you can talk out loud to tell them how grateful you are for each of them and how they affected the course of your life. You'll want to do this practice one after the other because it holds a much deeper sense of gratitude than if you were to split them up. If your unable to be by yourself today, sit down to write a letter to each person. You can address them like this:

Jenny, I want to thank you for the time you suggested that I teach paint nights. It was something that I never considered before and your confidence in the idea gave me the encouragement to try it out. Because of what you said, it turned into something that I truly love doing and to this very day it has developed into more painting opportunities to groups that I couldn't of possibly imagined. Thank you for your suggestion, I'll always be grateful to you!

It's very important to say the reasons WHY your grateful. The more you say and feel, the more amazing the results will be. Be ready for the magic to explode in your life!

Magic Practice #12 Magical People Who Made A Difference

1. Count your blessings. Make a list of 10 blessings. Write WHY you're grateful. Reread your list, and at the end of each blessing say, Thank you, thank you, thank you (3x), and feel as grateful for that blessing as you can.

2. Find a quiet place alone sometime today and make a list of 3 people who made a difference in your life

3. Work through your list one person at a time, and while talking to the out loud tell each person the reason why your grateful for them, and exactly how they affected the course of your life. If you cannot talk out loud write a letter to each of them. Make sure you do this practice one after the other to ensure the power of gratitude ignites the magic even more!

4. Before you go to sleep, take your magic rock in one hand and say the magic words, Thank you, for the best thing that happened during the day.
