I’m sure you have all heard your mother say that breakfast is the most important
meal of the day! Despite that advice (sorry mom!) you don’t need to eat first thing in
the morning to activate your metabolism. When you wake up, your body is in a
ketogenic or fat burning state. If you interrupt that with a sugar and carbohydrate
loaded breakfast it can cause you to put on those extra calories as fat.
Ideally it is best to break your over night fast after 12-16 hours of not eating. That
means eating nothing for 12-16 hours after your evening meal. For example, if you
ate your dinner at 6p.m. you wouldn’t eat breakfast until 8 or 9 a.m. the next day.
This not only helps to cleanse the body but also allows you to burn more fat and to
produce human growth hormone along with all of it’s healing properties.
To keep the body in its fat-burning state it is best to consume a breakfast rich in
healthy fats and protein.
I have chosen to share a smoothie bowl recipe that is designed to do just that! There
are a few carbs in the banana and pineapple but it is balanced with addition of ripe
avocado, fresh baby kale, spirulina, coconut milk, and sun warrior sprouted protein
blend. Vanilla Sun Warrior Protein is sweetened with stevia which eliminates the
need for added sweetener. You can top it with fresh or frozen berries, a tbsp. of
hemp seeds or other nuts, or even a sprinkling of your favorite granola. I make a raw
dehydrated granola made with buckwheat and almonds, both high in protein.
